Watching the birds in your yard and neighborhood is a fun activity for the whole family. A great way to attract more birds to your yard is to put out bird feeders and birdhouses. These don't have to be expensive - they're easy to make yourself and are a great spring break or summer activity for your children. Here are a few easy ideas -
- Use gourds. After an adult cuts out a circle in the front of the gourd, children can use a spoon to scrape out any seeds. The gourds can be painted or left plain for an easy and cute bird house.
- Buy plain wooden birdhouses from your local hardware or discount store. While you're not technically making these yourself, you can decorate them. The same thing would work for wooden bird feeders.
- Use old (clean) milk jugs to make a birdhouse or bird feeder.
